In late 2009, after being out of RC modeling for 20 years, I decided to have a look around and see what was going on. All the computerized, Vegas glitz of the new radios was both engaging and off-putting at the same time. I then starting looking at used stuff on ebay. During this search I came across a reference that read "good for a MicroStar 2000 conversion". Well that peaked my curiosity and I quickly found Gordon Anderson's site and was very, very pleased. I also found great inspiration in articles written by "The Pipe" (one of his articles is on this site as well).

I scooped up a few vintage units but the fact that no one was making metal open gimbal sticks irked me....so....I got to building my own sticks and that led to a scratch built MS2K. Of course, I used one of Kees' amazing kits, found a very cool case made by Hammond and since I do fair bit of professional graphic design I couldn't resist trimming the beastie in some custom cut vinyl.

This particular transmitter was built for electrics and gliders and therefore does not have a plethora of controls on the outside of the case. The coolest thing is that the excellent interface on the transmitter allowed me to set up the correct rates and exponential settings without having an armada of switches to get the job done. Auto trim allows the daring to have no separate trims, again this was partially an aesthetic choice to keep the look of the transmitter very clean.

A huge thanks to Gordon giving us a DIY option in building our own systems!
